Medical Physicist


Salary £45,000 - £55,000 per annum

A pioneering medical technology start-up company based in Bristol is looking for an Medical Physicist to help support the future development of a new system. They are in the later stages of developing and commercialising a new technology for detecting breast cancer using radio-waves that has the potential to completely transform how breast cancer is detected.

You will be working closely with the R&D team to manage and oversee data production from the company’s systems using phantom studies and system simulation.

They are really looking for someone who can both generate ideas but who is also competent and passionate about doing the best job they can.

As an Experimental Systems Engineer, your responsibilities will include:

  • Supervision of Service/Lab Technicians and day-to-day activities in the laboratory.
  • Liaising with senior engineers to define, plan and execute experiments to prove/disprove new methods.
  • Designing of jigs and fixtures to ensure efficiency and effectiveness of data collection.
  • Analysing and reporting of experimental results and data.
  • Proposing system improvements supported by data.
  • Developing and executing test protocols and writing reports.
  • Developing system level functionality to monitor and operate the product.
  • In lab system monitoring and management.
  • Undertaking any other specific tasks as detailed by the department manager.
  • Ensuring own compliance with health and safety regulations.

    We are looking for an Experimental Systems Engineer who has the following skills and experiences:

     An engineering graduate (BEng or equivalent).

  • Electronic systems test and troubleshooting.
  • Extensive experience working in a medium sized engineering company in a regulated industry (e.g., medical device, pharma, aerospace, defence).
  • Experience of MATLAB, Python, C++ programming languages.
  • Ideally some experience with electrical safety and/or EMC requirements.
  • Ability to liaise with engineers and suppliers to build prototype equipment, test jigs and fixtures.
